Default 68 Hood Release Cable Snapped!

I'm stuck! My hood cable snapped when I tried to open the hood on my '68. I got under the car to reach up and release it manually, but it didn't seem to work. I can barely reach the rocker assembly, but I am able to pivot it back and forth. However, the hood is not popping up. I've guys with 70-72s removing the side grill, but the gills on the '68 aren't big enough for my hands. Any suggestions? I need to change the oil, but I need to fix this first.

Looks like a great theory, but I need them to show how to get a screw driver in the wiper well. That's a tight fit! I'm assuming my cross over wire may be show too. I couldn't recall if there were two release points or not. Ug! I've definitely learned my lesson. Thanks for the refernce. I'll keep tring... Any other ideas?

Got it! When in doubt use more force! I wasn't pushing the release lever hard enough. I still don't know about the screw driver theory, but the hood is open! You never realize how much you miss the engine block until you can't see it! Cheers!
