My Voltage gauge on my 80 had a habit of stopping at 12 volts when first started.A tap of the throttle pushed it up to 13.5.No problem.I have electric fans with powermaster alt 120amp.Its only about 2 years old.
Recently {today} I noticed the gauge doing the same thing except when I tapped the throttle it didnt jump up to 13+.I drove about 5 minutes down the freeway before the gauge needle woke up to where it shoud be.
Is this a sign of a serious problem? The battery is 4 years old.Anyone have a similiar issue.Id like to prevent being stranded with a little prevenitive maintinence.
The car started fine, ran fine,no accessories were on during this issue.

Check your belt...get the battery load tested...take the alt off have it checked as well...sounds like you may have a faulty voltage regulator...most parts supply places test stuff for free!
