Default I could make the profanity filter implode with this post

so instead of swearing, I'm going to use the word vacuum

I can not vacuuming believe this vacuum. I was outside blending base coat on my hood that got scratched to vacuum while being stored for the past year. While blending the base, I was only running the edges since thats where the damage was done and on the rear corner of the hood (was chipped off and did a small fix).

I was colorsanding the base today near the edges and put down my first coat of clear. everything looked fine and dandy till I put my heavy coat on. Thats when I realized the paint which I bought pre mixed right from the vacuuming paint shop doesnt vacuuming match. I'm so gawd vacuum vacuumed off right now. I just can not believe it doesnt match.. it's like not even vacuuming close to the right tint.

Why the VACUUM couldnt I have painted the vaccuming car black !!!

matching up paint isn't as easy as simply going in and saying "I need Red (or whatever color)". Even black is hard to match. There must me over 100 shades of black!
When we painted my car last year it took almost a dozen sample pints mixed up before we got the color correct.
ALWAYS spray ot paint a sample test piece and let it dry and compare it to the rest of the car before using it to check the color to see how well it matches.

We kept about 1/2 quart we had left over after my paint job for futire repairs so we KNEW it would match and on top of that I got the custom paint formula of the mix from the PPG supplier in case I ever need to order more.

sorry about your frustration, I know it sucks to have to go through this, but it's not uncommon.

the thing is, I know exactly what color it is because I painted it myself. I ran out of my gallon tub last time when I did the hood so I bought a small touch up can of it. now it looks like I gotta get it un mixed and do it the right way.. which is paint it all over again

Even different gun settings can sometime effect color shades in some pigments....I'm surprised the self proclaimed "forum paint guru" didn't know that

Unless you are extremely lucky, you will have to blend the upper surround also. Even if you get the color dead-nuts on, the metallic lay-down will be different. Edge painting sucks because you have to paint a perfectly good adjacent panel. G/L
