After my old trailer got stolen, I got a new one today to pick up the race car.. It's a REALLY tight fit in my garage.. With the rear of the trailer completely backed up to the wall, I got 1/4 inch clearance to the garage door in front!!
My old one is pretty funky..it's functional...but not without a lot of work!
Several years ago I was a big swap meet in Dallas and noticed a vendor there from Oklahoma that had some really nice trailers. They were just made the right way for a Vette. Wide, real low fenders, long dovetail and long ramps. Of course at the time I didn't buy one.
So at the races a month or so ago, a buddy was there with his Viper and was going to sell his trailer. My wife was literally about to write him a check to get it for my birthday when I walked up. While that was real nice...I told her that if I was going to get a new trailer, I wanted the one I REALLY wanted. His had a 16' deck and I wanted a longer one.
So she asks me to show her another trailer at the track that I liked. So I turn around and look at a Camaro sitting on a trailer in the next pit. As I look at it, I realize that it seems to be exactly what I wanted. So I walk over and ask the guy where he got it...and he says " I got it at that big swap meet in Dallas a few years ago"!!!!
THEN...I realize that that same annual Swap Meet is coming up in a few weeks. I called the vendor in Oklahoma and they told me they were coming again this year!
So I figure it's fate..I am destined to own one of those trailers! So we spend a lot of time on the phone specing what I wanted and right on schedule they brought it down to Dallas and I drove up from Houston to pick it up last Saturday!
I ended up with it custom done with 2 extra feet added (mine stays outside!). So it has a 20' deck with 4 ft dovetail, and a 5' tongue. So that makes it 25' overall. It has enclosed extra long 6' ramps and oversized recessed D-rings. The fenders are only 8" or so tall so doors clear easily on a Vette. It also has a heavier Bulldog hitch. They added steps along the side and even a little bling-bling aluminum trim! The only thing I couldn't get done in time was to add recessed deck lights to help with hooking up straps at night. But I'll add those later.
Plus I didn't have to pay tax!!
Now at least no one will be laughing this year at Bowling Green at my old trailer.!!
You know this just means it's time for you to get to work on that new house with a shop you were talking about!! You need more room!
How the heck did it get stolen? Didn't you keep it in the garage? That's what you get for living in those fancy neighborhoods...
Seriously, though, you need THREE locks to properly secure a trailer. My boat trailer has one lock in the ball socket, another thru the latch and a cable lock thru the wheels spokes wrapped around the frame. If someone wants my boat/trailer, they're going to have to work for it.

When I dropped the '68 off at the shop about 2 weeks ago, I left the trailer there for 2 nights and it got stolen during the 2nd night..
I know that you already have it - but I have seen boat trailers now that have a fold back tongue to help the boat+trailer fit in the garage.
Look at higher end bass boats.
That would be a great thing to have on just about all longer trailers.
My garage is actually 24' deep but I am a long way away from getting a trailer.
