The emergency brake on my 71 doesn't hold the car even on a slight slope, can someone tell me the proper way to adjust it? Also when a car is being PV (performance verification) judged by the NCRS how do they test the E brakes? WB
I do not recall the exact procedure...but it is in the shop manual and Haynes books. Basically you adjust the pads first and then the hand brake line. But dont expect much difference....this is the way they are.
The Chevy manual also calls for counting the clicks to get some force on the handbrake lever, then going out to a deserted street driving at some speed and pulling the lever to the number of clicks determined earlier.
I have never done that, but mine e-brake holds fine forward or reverse at fairly steep grades when set without the break in procedure.
Car Guy, I've heard that the emergency brakes were never all that good,Thanks
Stickshift, are you saying that is how the judges will test the brake?
Rich, perfect thanks for the print out
After posting I checked over in Tech/Perf they had a few treads there as well. Not sure if I should attempt the adjustments, I might make things worse It's those little jobs that get me into more than I bargained for! Wb

Both mine work good....the 69 needs adjustment as it is beginning to slip a little on slope of driveway...just be patient..take your time...
