The valve covers were installed with silicone instead of gaskets. Should they be stuck on? I've taken off the nuts, but they don't budge. I've tried gently prying with screwdriver, don't budge. Should it be that difficult or am I just being overly cautious?
yeah, they put a TON of silicone on there. It was a good pry to get them off. I've never done that before, so was a little worried about tweaking the chrome valve covers. New ones look sweet tho. Thanks for the help.
You may also want to check if any kind of support brackets for accessories are over the valve covers which may be holding the cover in place. I can't think of any that would be there if the engine were stock but you never know.

Just make sure you got all the silicone pieces out of the area. Don't want that stuff circulating in the oil.
when putting gaskets back on - make sure you get the good thick ones. I made that mistake and the thin ones leaked like a sieve. I got the more expensive ones too - they were the brand that these guys recommended here - cant remember what it was though. When I bought them - I got 2 sets and pinned a set to the wall for later use.
at the store there were one's ranging from $4-15 so I got the $15 ones since they were cork and something else mixed...can't remember.
I've installed them, ran car for 20 minutes. No leaks. I tightened them a little past hand tight, then as car was warming up I noticed that I could tighten them more. I only did a little tiny bit, but is that okay?
Should I tighten even more when/after car is warm?
