What's up with the 76 steering wheels? I have read that they used a Vega style on the 76's. My wheel is in pretty decent shape, but is wrong color. I have looked through all the catalogs and see steering wheels listed for 67-75, 77-82. What about 76? What is needed to convert to another year wheel? Is there some type of adapter? Mine has a deep dish design instead of flat. I have tilt & tele. Would I be better off just having someone restore mine? Who?
I have the same thing. Mine is in decent shape but the previous owner put one of those vinyl wraps on it and it must have melted. I can't seem to get the stickyness off of it. I even tried paint thinner.
Hello,
Yes the Corvette and the Vega shared the same steering wheel for the 1976 model year. That is why the catalogs show a separation of the years , and omit the 76 model year.
I dont know what it will take to use a different steering wheel, or an aftermarket model I am sure that there is a adapter kit somewhere to do this though.

ALL the better optioned Chevrolet cars got that wheel in '76, I've seen Novas and Camaros with it, and my dad's '76 Laguna has it as well. I don't mind the wheel at all, although I'd like to redye it and buy a wheelskins steering wheel cover for it at some point.
My 76 wheel was wrapped from the previous owner also. The glue was stuck to the wheel, and there was some mold on the wheel as well. I used steel wool pads and some cheap cleaner from the dollar store. I like my 4 spoke 76 steering wheel.
John, If it is for a CF members personel use......whatever they think is fair + shipping.

I'd like to find one that wasn't in so good a condition. I've been wanting an extra to try a few things with, but it would play Hades with the wheel in the process. It's not the money, it's just the fact I don't like thinking about screwing something up that's not being made anymore, ya know?
Thanks....John
