Default Adding AC to a '68 convertable

Living in the Dallas area, having AC for your car is important for those hot summer days. The '68 that I purchased does not have AC so I was considering adding a system.

I have found a kit from classic air that I am considering. Has anyone istalled this system in their car? Is so, can you tell me how close this looks compared to stock? I know some interior changes would have to be made, but if I put it in, I want the general appearance to be as though it came installed from the factory.

Classic Air

Another option is to try to source all the the correct '68 parts, but if this is close - it should be a lot easier.

You might also look at Vintage Air - they have a complete Corvette Kit.

This unit works MUCH better than stock. Call them at (800) 862-6658.

Complete 68 - 76 kit is $1428.00.

Alot of threads about this lately. It's a major thing to add to any car - let alone a Vette.

If you do decide to do this, Dynamat your interior, and use a Thermal Shield around your firewall. That will make your interior more insulated so that the A/C actually works.

Good luck

Here's the website for Vintage Air. The site doesnt specifically say 1968 to 76 a/c unit - but they do have one - I called about it for someone else.

We need it also here in Phoenix....

Is your 68 a 4speed, small block car?
If so, you may need a bigger radiator. It came on automatic, bigblock, and A/C cars.

Good point Gary. I have a HUGE aluminum racing radiator and RV clutch fan, with a tigh fit fan shroud. Real good point to look at.

I looked out on Vintage Air and found the '68 A/C kit. I think this is just what I am looking for. - Thanks I will also keep radiator size in mind as well.
