gauge question....stupid
How can one connect a Air/Fuel Ratio gauge to a carbureted big block
that has no oxygen sensor?
Why, you ask?
Centrifugal supercharger installed, now installing a boost gauge and figured that an A/F Ratio gauge would alert to detonation conditions as this is a street only car and it runs on good pump gas......which is not such good gas these days.
Will it matter if I read one cylinder only?
Which cylinder has the biggest habit of running lean on a BBC?
2)Don't I need a computer chip to read the sensor that I screw in.
I told you it would end up being a stupid question!
In July 2006 edition of Corvette Fever magazine there is an article on tuning a carb with the air/fuel mixture sensors.
On pages 35/36 it states...." false lean readings can occur under certain operating conditions. The false readings are created when the oxygen sensor sees the excessive oxygen in the exhaust system that can come from an engine misfire, A SUPERCHARGED ENGINE BLOW THRU EFFECT AT LOW ENGINE SPEEDS, a high performance camshaft valve overlap or an exhaust leaak...."
The article goes over some of the advantages of the infrared exhaust gas analyzer and the wide band oxygen sensor methods.
This doesnt address or answer the question that you have, but should add some additional information for you.
