On my 77 I am going to replace my 7-leaf rear spring with a new 7-leaf replacement spring. Please provide any cautionary warnings or tips before I start this job. Does anyone have a step-by-step procedure that they can post? Thanks.
Thanks. The reason I must change the spring is because I noticed that the end of the third and fourth leaves (counting from the bottom) broke off on one end, making the fifth leaf longer than the third and fourth. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

No...but you might consider Guldstrands replacement 7 leaf...I bought the one that is 1 1/2" shorter than stock..you gain 3/4" more room at tires with spring bolts....well built. Also it is slightly stiffer than stock FE7 spring...if you look close at pic below, you can see spacers they use instead of the old liners between the leafs to prevent friction.....
I had a similar problem with my 1972. One of the leaf springs broke where it would normally extend from the group of springs itself.
I replaced this with a stock spring.
The installation was very easy. Use jack stands to get the car up in the air and support it. You will need to use a jack to support the spring once you remove the bolts from the trailing arm.
