Enjoy the search! I found that proud owners at car shows are a great resource for honest hints and tips. I've had my first and only Corvette for 2 years now and still learning.
I have to say that I agree with a couple of earlier posts: get the best condition you can afford. I found a couple of private sellers with essentially junk and a local dealer in used performance cars with good selection and integrity.
Follow this forum daily - it'll help a lot. And there's a really good tech section with a buyer's guide that covers just about everything.
What I'm thinking is... someone on the forum should help him look at cars and offer an owners opinion on the car before he spends his hard earned money on it... OR you should take the car to a local vette dealer and put it up on the lift and check it out in and out.. the dealer will charge you (probably $100) for the consult, but it will be professional, multipoint inspection...
Be sure before you buy is all I can say...
congratulations on your decision...
Just got back in town from golfing trip, turned on computer and went straight to Forums. What marvelous advice. My Dad told me "if a man knows more than you, learn from him: if he knows less, then help him." Well, I thank you all for the help. The best place to start is always at the beginning and now I have a destination to shoot for. Thanks again. I'll be back with news when there is something to say.
Welcome to the forum Good luck with the search, all the guys above have given you great advice. Whatever you do, don't by sight unseen Take your time, they are out there. I'm sure someone from here or a local Corvette Club member could check out a car with you. I have an '82 and love it. If you go for an '82 make sure it's running nicley, if not it can be a problem finding someone to set up the crossfire injection, or you can do it your self like I did. It's the best cruiser, 25mpg highway, very comfortable. Unless you are looking to work on it yourself, you are much better off getting the best one you can afford, it's cheaper in the long run and you can enjoy it right away. You can find a cherry car at a dealer but you will PAY TOP $ for it. Is it worth it? That's up to you. Your happiness is worth a few bucks too.
Don't be afraid to ask any questions. Have fun with your new found time.
When do they stop sending the applications to join AARP? Take your time looking for the right C3. If there is a vette club in your area, talk with some of the members who have C3s, maybe they'll take you for a ride or let you drive their vette.
