Stick with your bumper car. They are among the fastest appreciating Vettes right now and are beautiful. I had a 78 years ago and it was the most poorly made Vette I have ever owned. All due respect to others who own one, but I didn't care for it.
Sounds like you're really looking for some stick shift fun. Consider converting your auto to a 5 speed. Your '71 will become a whole new animal. I did that with my '80 and it's a blast to drive now. 1st and 2nd launches strong and in 5th I can cruise the highway all day long.
Personally, I'd keep the '71. The Pace Cars are cool but the '71 is best.

Yes, looking for some shift stick fun, but converting an original car is a if you want it to maintain its value.
If you are comparing both cars, with the intention on keeping both close to "original", then the 71 would probably be your better value to keep.
Same goes with modifications to either, because the chrome bumber cars are increasing more currently (which is good), and the PaceCar is also unique, touching either dumps the value in the toilet come longer term for a potential future sale. (and I'm a big fan of the 78' PC, because I had one new and always like the 79' look and seats in the 78 car........... hate the regular seats in my 78')
The numbers matching 71 doesnt sound like a driver to me.... neither does a pacecar with less than 12k miles.... driving either one of those more than a few miles a year seems like a for keeping value. It does sound to me like you want a driver... a stick shift driver. Would finding a manual car that isnt a vette help to scratch that stick shift itch? Maybe a 90s BMW or some thing that doesnt empty the wallet.... blashemy I know, but that way you get a sporty stick shift and keep the numbaz matching bumper car that is appreciating (assuming you dont drive it much).

Keep the 71, it will always be worth more. You can convert your 71 to a 5 spd without cutting a wire or drilling a hole - bolt in and bolt out. It won't hurt it's value.
I had a 69 vert 12 yrs, got burnt out on it and sold it. One month later I wished I had it back. Now I'm building an 81 but it,s just not the same. The emissions issue sucks. The pace cars are cool, but I definitely see fewer and fewer chrome bumpers on the road.
Well I came home, went in the garage, and thought what was I thinking.
I only drive a few hundred miles per season, so neither would be considered a daily driver,
I spoke with this guy today who has this pace car, since it was the real thing
I got thinking because one day I'd like a 4 speed.
The pace car looks but as mentioned with under 10k miles, I'd
probably treat it like a trailer queen and be afraid to drive it.
I guess I'll pass on this for now, and maybe one day afford an LT1 or a BB bumpers car.
