I mentioned in an earlier thread that I'd gone to a car show/sale in Midland (Michigan) a couple of weeks ago and saw a really nice 1980 someone had put $100 down on it that Saturday (this was on Sunday that I saw it) and a lot of other people were showing interest in. The owner was a really nice guy, and when I brought my girldfriend to see the car, he got a kick out of that.
Long story short, the guy with the deposit never showed up again my Monday, and when the ownder remembered my girlfriend and I when I was talking to him on the phone he said he'd like to sell it to me. Here's what I ended up bringing home that Thursday of last week for $6900. It has a full stainless exhaust that's new and 4 new stainless calipers.
Good deal.
Nice, but I don't know about "stole it".
I'm assuming that it has 133k, not 33k miles.
I see these late C3s around me - currently going for 6-10k.
Yours would be closer to 10k than 6k.
I still have it in storage, Kevin. I really wasn't going to get another 'vette right now, but for the price of this one, and what it would cost to get our other one to that condition any time soon, it would have been hard to pass up.
How's you car coming along?
You guys are right about the mileage, it does have 133,000. I guess I didn't mean for anyone to think it had 33,000. Sorry about that.
I paid $6900 for it, and it has the new exhaust, calipers, Goodyears, and a lot of paperwork for it, books, models, that sort of thing. The guy who sold it to me has a '67 camaro covert. that he was offered $40K for and wouldn't sell. The vette I bought was his wife's show car. VERY nice couple...hope to see them at shows.
I have a couple of quick questions for you guys....the wingnut that holds the air cleaner on is quite tall and seems to be rubbing on the underside of the hood a bit. Any suggestions? The air cleaner itself doesn't give the distributor cap much room anyway. What replacements are out there that would allow the engine to breath well?
The passenger's side extreme front of the hood contacts the headlight vaccuum housing a little bit...just enough to scuff the paint if I don't do something. Can this be bent a little bit, or adjusted? It's the part where the hose attaches that's rubbing when the hood's opened/closed.

Well it's a good thing he remembered your girlfriend or you wouldn't have got the car....
