Default Could use some helpful advice

About the 80 vette I just bought:

I have a couple of quick questions for you guys....the wingnut that holds the air cleaner on is quite tall and seems to be rubbing on the underside of the hood a bit. Any suggestions? The air cleaner itself doesn't give the distributor cap much room anyway. What replacements are out there that would allow the engine to breath well?

The passenger's side extreme front of the hood contacts the headlight vaccuum housing a little bit when the hood opens/closes...just enough to scuff the paint if I don't do something. Can this be bent a little bit, or adjusted? It's the part where the hose attaches that's rubbing when the hood's opened/closed.

Also the car came with new Goodyear 275's all the way around. I read in Richand Newton's book, and heard other places, that these tires are too wide for the C3's and will end up damaging the body work. Any thoughts on this one too?

I'll try a few

Air cleaner wing nut should not hit. As I recall, your motor wasn't original. Could be that the carb and intake aren't either? Although less convenient, you could put a flat nut and washer on it to give a little extra clearance. Kind of Bubba, but it'll work.

Don't really know on this one, but I'd bend it before you end up needing a repaint.

Tire fit seems to be a car to car thing. To know if it fits, just look. Any rubs (inside or outside)? Can you turn your front wheels stop to stop without rubbing the fenders. If you compress a corner, do the tires hit the flares? If no to these, then they fit.

You can chauk your wheel wells(fender edges) and road test it...if you have chauk on your tires, you have the option of triming the fender lip...most times it's just the fronts that rub at almost full lock...

I have 275/50/17s on my 70 coupe in the back, 255/50s on the front. I only have slight rubbing, nothing major, but my car has custom bumpstops, my car is also 1.7" lower than stock. Maybe get some new bumpstops? Nice car too, looks clean!

Thanks for the advice. The car I USUALLY ask about does have a non-original motor, but this one has the original in it, though the air cleaner is definitely not stock.

Thanks again.
