When mine stuck (the plastic on the cable actually slipped (brand new cable too), I made a tool (an old screw driver) bent like a banana to get in there really easy.
It's a bit tricky but once you do it you will go "Wow". Pop the plug out wiper arm area. Stick your middle finger in the hole (no jokes) and feel the latch to get an idea of what your are aiming for. Take a medium size screwdriver and place the blade against the latch you just felt and push forward. It will pop and the hodd releases. It may take a few tries. I advise anyone who has never done it to do it before you have to.

Takes some practice finding that tab though.
Works like a charm, it happend to me once. After you get it open adjust the cable so you don't have the problem again.
if one side pops up and the other is stuck, give the side that is popped up a slight push on the side, pushing it towards the stuck side. the stuck side should pop right up.
Now that you have the hood open, practice with the hood open. It will happen again one day and it is good to familiarize yourself with what you have to do.
Like I said in my 1st post, I actually bent a screw driver to help out with this chore when it happens in the future.
