Dash Light Question

sounds like the problem i had, printed circuit board was shot to hell although i guess its possible that all of your bulbs could be blown.
if you can get your hand up behind the dash to remove one of the lower bulbs and replace it with a new one before pulling everything apart to verify that the board is shot that would save you some time.
otherwise........................
its simple to remove the speedo/tach cluster if the 80 was still made like my 78.
remove negative from the battery.
loosen the 2-1/2" steering column nuts where it goes through the floor
(i ran mine almost all the way to the end)
Remove the cover just below the steering column, this is held on by 4 phillips head screws and holds the vacuum switch(at least on my 78) to keep the headlights up.
remove the 2 bolts that hold the steering column to the bottom of the dash 5/8s if i remember right.
now here is where it gets tricky, i reached up under the dash to disconnect the speedo cable. i have heard that you can do it after the cluster has been pulled away from the dash but have never tried it.
now remove the philips head screws that hold the cluster in to the dash
and gently pull on the cluster. it should pull straight out towards you, if not you may have to pry out a corner with a small screw driver to get it to break free (which is what i had to do) once it has broken free from the dash pull it out to where you can get your hand behind it and disconnect the main power connector( i was able to move mine to the left and it gave me about 5" to play with.
if you havent disconnected the speedo cable, do this now.
once thats done the cluster should be able to be removed.
if i have missed any of the steps someone please chime in.
also once your back there do what im doing and replace all the bulbs and questionable sockets.
also if your not far from Trenton i would be happy to give you a hand if you want to bring it over one weekend.
good luck
