Default gas with ethynol

anyone having any problems with your carb gumming up from your car sitting for a couple of week with that gas this ethynol in it. having a hard time narrowing down the 78 running rough but someone said today that a freind let his bike sit for a week and his mechanic said carb was gummed up bad. ran great the week before but sitting for a week the gas went bad. all the gas here has 10% ethynol in it. think i might put some fresh gas in mine and run some seafoam though it.

We have had 10% ethanol here in Minnesota for long time and I have it in my 76 Vet thats sits all winter and never had a problem. Could it have been contaminated fuel? I think you are started in the right direction with fresh gas and Seafoam. Good luck.

I have a car that runs methonal (alcohol racing fuel) and very aware with any fuel ending in (nol). These fuels are noted for the issue you discribe, heat & time is what breaks it down to a gummy texture, if your car sit's for extended periods what you say about gumming is a pit fall for (nol) fuels. We spary WD-40 on all parts during teardown to keep the engine clean for this problem. Word of advise if using (nol) fuels, change you engine oil more often to avoid build up on the inside componets...

If you had old gunk in the fuel system from bad gas or from sitting for a long time, the alcohol might have acted as a solvent and freed some of it up. I've usually found that the 10% ethanol gas acts as a decent fuel system cleaner.

Batman got it right. The ethanol dissolves crud in the tank and lines.

A problem with E10 is that the ethanol will separate from the gasoline if you let it sit. Not sure what to recommend to people who store their cars over winter?

How about' Drain the Gas Tank? You should do that anyway.

E-10 is everywhere now due to a fed EPA mandate. I take my car out once week at least and havn't had any problems. Same gas sit's in my power equipment for weeks and I have not seen any problems.

I think (and this is pure speculation) that like with any such mixtures, if you let it sit, it will seperate. I believe the therory that ethanol may clean contaminates from the inside of the fuel system and you may want to try changing your fuel filter afer a few tanks.
