77 Alarm Instructions

I just bought a 77 and have no idea how to even test the alarm to see if it works. I know that the alarm key in the front fender was removed for 77 and moved to the driver door lock, but how does one activate/deactivate it? Oh, and when I looked in my 77 owners manual, it still has the explanation for the fender lock!

Lock & unlock the dr. door w/ the key.

You can put the dr. window down & then open hood & door from inside to test & unlocked pass. door from outside.

So locking the driver door automatically sets the alarm and unlocking it deactivates it?

ACTUALLY...early 77s still had the fender lock. You might have a car that should have the fender cylinder but has had it removed.

Three versions of the 77 driver-side fender:
early - alarm lock, no flags
mid - alarm lock and flags
late - flags, no alarm lock

My car is a late with the flags, but no key lock. Will have to go out to the garage and try it once my daughter wakes up from her nap.

My car came with an owner's manual, just has the wrong instructions printed in it. As it was a low-mileage, 2-owner car, I'd imagine it was the original manual from the car.

I wonder if GM actually changed the owner's manual when they changed the alarm location or just left it wrong?
