Two questions / 74 Big Block
1. What or Where is the "switch" that triggers the Cowl Induction solonoid to open the air door at the base of the windshield? I found that the wire was off the cowl door solonoid....so I want to "test" it before I put it all back together.
Since it is VERY unlikely that this car will ever see rain again....I am thinking about just removing the cowl door so it gets cool air ALL the time. Thoughts?
2. I have some light "surface" rust on parts of the frame....Is there anything similar to POR 15 that is clear and thinner and easier to work with? It's not structural...but it IS ugly. I am actually just thinking about cleaning it with mineral spirits or similar. Suggestions ?
Thanks .....

...there is a switch that the gas pedal arm triggers inside the interior firewall side. Can be activated by just turning the ignition "ON" without starting the car. The working door makes a definite "thud" when it opens...

Thanks Paul....I didn't know if it was a vacuum controled switch or an electrical relay. There is a vacuum/electric solonoid behind the Q-jet...I think it is part of the EGR system. I just got this BB a few weeks ago.
I will look for the switch this weekend.....gotta go back to work tomorrow..... .....I put it back together today....minus the flapper assembly...makes a noticible increase in carb sound. I can't afford for it to have much more low end torque .... ..... I will end up in the ditch! This thing will already boil the tires through about 60 on level pavement!

The idle solonoid is driver's side next to the linkage. This one is behind the carb....in front of the distributor, with vacuum lines and an electrical connection. I am not sure what it does. I found the cowl activation switch inside the interior on the gas pedal assembly.

That would be the TCS solenoid - controls vacuum advance based on engine temp I think. You should see vacuum lines going to the distributor, and another going through a hard line to the front of the carb for ported vacuum. Mine was busted - found a new one locally.
