I have a question for all of you L-88 hood guys. I like the L-88 style hood better than stock (who doesnt). Anyway I am converting my 74 350 to a 496 monster. I am wanting to put the L-88 hood on but have a few questions. One option is just buying an original L-88 hood (which is the easiest) for a few hundred dollars the only problem is at least the ones on ebay usually back east or in cali are pick up only no shipping and I live in sw mo, so no dice. Another option is getting an L-88 style hood scoop. Has anyone ever used one of these? Will it fit correctly on the stock sb hood? Im sure you dont just slap it on I know there is some fab work but Im just wondering if it can be done or does it look like crap.
looks awesome. That is definitly the look I was going for. I have a question if you dont mind, when you molded it on did you just place it where you wanted it then just mold it on top of the hood or place it where you want it, make an outline on your hood, cut out the area then fiber glass it on?
Someone here just bought a used hood (that ultimately came damaged for $500 when (he said) a QUALITY new one from ACI was only $100 more....And someone else is having a problem with the fit with a new hood from Vanacors.....the moral of this story you ask?? it took me 50 years to understand BUT you get what you pay for.......

I have bought a lot of glass parts and if you go the L-88 scoop route, save yourself a lot of grief and go with the piece from Eckler. It's the only one I know of that is contoured to the Vette hood. Saves a bunch of work/time to install... There's not a lot left of mine ,but here's a pic........

your 74 is a long style hood, and an original hood is short style hood because of the windshield wiper door system. So you will definitly need an aftermarket L-88 hood and you will spend a little more at Ecklers but then again... they have the original molds GM used.

Oooops, that's right....no scoop from Eckler for the long hood.
thanks for all your thoughts. I looked around on the net today and found one the same dimentions as ecklers but half the price. I know you get what you pay for but hopefully its nothing a few 4 letter words and some beer cant take care of. I'll let you know how it goes.

Half the price? Do they also have twin duct turbo hood for a 68-76 model?

As the guy that bought the used hood for $500, I'd say that the real moral of this story is not only that you "might" get what you pay for, but it's more important "who" you buy it from.
They make the hoods (and a bunch of other glass) and will ship anywhere... well at least they'll ship to Alaska. And while "anywhere" isn't in Alaska... you can see it from here.

ABSOLUTELY. All I'll say is that the one I got from Vanacor fit TERRIBLY and my new one from Eckler's is just excellent.
