Default Air Conditoning in 82 CE

Ok, my A/C has been charged twice and still blows (literally) hot air.

Sounds like a leak to me, but anybody know of common areas to look or if there is some systematic method to troubleshoot A/C problems?

thanx.

Put gauges on it
Look for oily spots at fittings etc.

First look for oily spots. If you can't find any get a UV dye (it comes in a small bottle with refrigerant as propellant). You can put this in yourself. You need a UV light and goggles to find the leak. You can either buy a UV detection kit that has the light and goggles or take it to a shop.

make sure the hot water cutoff valve is working too. Its a vac operated valve in the heater hose going to the heater core right in front of the firewall

If the system is good, no leaks, then check the cable that controls the vent door, itake off the side panel of the passenger side center console. You'll see a black cable with a white (or clear?) plastic adjustment barrel that you can turn with your fingers. Turn on the air then turn the adjuster til you here the vent door close at which point you should feel cold air through the vents.

Does it blow cold at all upon first startup of the car? If so, probably the water cutoff or vent door causing the hot air after warming up to temp. If it's hot at first start you probably need a charge(again). That would sound like a leak.

Use gage..must establish if you are holding pressure...sounds like a big leak or compressor is shot...

There doesn't seem to be any drop on power when the A/C is engaged, so maybe the compressor is shot, as its usually noticeable on most cars when you turn on the A/C.

Goes to an A/C specialist on Friday. At least I've got some good points to look for.

thanx
