Default Its 2006

Its time to get into the 21st century.

You can get a cheap XP system for about 400 to 500.

Its not worth "upgrading" your 8 year old computer. If you take it to the Geek Squad you will spend half of the price of a new system to have an outdated system.

Lose windows 98. If Windows was a car you wouldnt buy it. It self destructs.

I should know, its the reason I have a job.

Default Put Linux on it...

It's free and it will be a major upgrade from 98.
It is stable and pretty easy to install.
You can download the iso images from http://linuxiso.org/
I would reccommend Fedora Core 5.

Under Tools / Internet Options / Advanced: if you scroll all the way to the bottom you will see a check box for "Empty temporary internet files folder when browser is closed"

Select that and you dont have to do it manually.

But then again you are still on 98 and IE is scrweed up.
Firefox is a better solution. But it wont fix 98.

Your having the same problems I had!! You have a bug you can't shake.
I ask for heol here several times on what I could do, but no one seem to have an idea of what was going on. Some other members here contacted
me with the same problems and could not figure it out. I had to keep delete the cookies so it would not mess up my other browsers. You got it from the corvette forum!!!. I have to use mozilla firefox to see the c/f now.

Yes, the temposrary files, they are usually the culprits. Other than that you can try going to control panel and "add remove programs" select IE and select repair, that is IF 98 has that function. . .I don't remember.

Just tried FireFox, download speeds are about 2MB faster than IExplorer 7 beta 2 and I like FireFox GUI better, it's a keeper.

Huh...

Wierd. I made mention of the fact that '98 and ME were no longer going to be supported by Microsoft as of July 11th, and someone deleted my post about it. Go figure.

Upgrade to Firefox. And if you want a good email program that has a built in spam filter (and it actually does a decent job of filtering out the spam, instead of having to use an add on filter like Outlook Express relies on) go with Thunderbird, also a Mozilla based product.

You'll find it to be a major upgrade from IE.

However, don't uninstall IE, as there are certain websites out there that still try to support it exclusively (not to mention that if you try to fire up the Windows Update, it forces IE to load). So because of that I do recommend keeping it.

BTW, for those who want some faster d/l speeds, try adding FasterFox to Firefox. I'm not exactly sure how it speeds things up, but it does a great job of speeding up web page loading.
