Well after 8 months and a lot of swearing, I finally have the car under primer. I went through 4 paint guns before I found one that would shoot the 2k high build (mine was old, neighbors had WD40 in it, Lowes sold me one that some azzhat had used and returned that was broken). Anyway, here are some pics:
You should just have a family member call "Overhaulin". Save you a lot of time and hassle.
I actually tried that already . Wife says they are booked until 2008. Oh well, it was worth a shot.
Looks like I'll be going with 'Viper Red' for the final color. I like the darker (blood) shade of red vs the bright red like the victory red.
I'm up for suggestions though.
Lookin good. No substitution for good equipment, HF sells all kinda cheap guns, but I have a 30 yr old Sharpe that does the job. Might get a new HVLP gun soon tho, got ot do the green thing you know
looks like your going to get awsome results( 1st photo) most people who have never done this just doesent understand how much work it is to do. I understand and now know when someone says that $8-10k for paint is to much....... I dont think so

Man you're not kidding. I never ever ever would have thought it would be this intensive. Luckily, so far I haven't had to spend a whole lot to get it to this point. Other than lots of sand paper, the biggest expense was the 2K primer kit and it was only about $80 (and a replacement paint gun $40 which I'll use on other projects). I really hope it turns out well. Thanks for the positive reinforcement. Beleive me - I need it!
I used a Campbell Hausfeld siphon feed gun with a 1.8mm tip. It sprayed very well. I was suprised at how thick that crap was, but man it really was worth the money - it lays down wet and smoooooth! I plan on using a Binks or DeVilbiss gravity fed HVLP with a 1.4mm tip for the base/clear.
Wish me luck!
