Hi y'all. I'm a rookie corvette owner. I've been taking a look around this site and have gotta say that you guys know your stuff! I'm already taking notes!
While I'm sure I'll be using your wisdom in the future, I've got a quick cosmetic question for you: Anyone know where I can get that technical spec plate that goes on the center console under the parking brake?
If it's impossible, does anyone have a picture of one for an 82 CE so that I can try to have a replica made?
Thanks, and I look forward to chatting with you all!
82'S did not come with a Tech Plate. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe GM stopped installing them in the early 70's. They were used prior to this because you different engine, transmission, rear gear options in the Vette back then. They then decided to "cookie cutter" every car with the same motors. '82 only came with the 700-R4 tranny and the 2.82 rear gears.

the stopped using the tech info plates sometime in the mid 70's (maybe '74, '75 or so). pretty much when the only engine choices became the base motor or the L82 option.
Besides, HP levels had dropped so much by than I don't think they wanted to "show off" the low HP ratings so noticably anymore.
It was cool looking down and seeing a HP rating of 350 - 400HP on the plate but who wants to be reminded that their base motor corvette is now only 190HP?
probably stopped using them in '77, because that's when the C3 got the redesigned interior.
and I don't remember my '77 having one.
My 75 has the tag but it only shows 350 Cu In and 9.0:1 Comp Ratio. That's an L-82 tag even though the car is a L-48. Guess a PO wanted to impress themselves (or someone) with the perceived awesome power of the 75 L-82 engine.
I'm certainly not surprised they eliminated the HP numbers. What w/a 75 L-48 being rated at 165HP and the "performance" engine (L-82) was only 205, I wouldn't have advertised those numbers either.
