Default Astro Ventilation Windows

I just saw the below at a corvette faq website.

New for 1975:
- Last year for Astro-ventilation.

My 76 has Astro Ventilation windows. Does that mean that my previous owner put those windows in, or is the above statement not true? My vin shows an early 76 production. I have so far found 68 seats, 78 T-Tops, and 78 front emblem on my car so it is not unheard of that the previous owners put these windows in as well.

The Corvette Black Book says Astro ventilation was eliminated beginning with the '76 models but is does not say ALL 76s were without Astro Ventilation. If your car is early '76, has the Astro door glasses, and rear deck vents, I'd say your Astro is original. The NCRS Judging Manual for '76 will probably have a date and/or serial number for phasing out the Astro.

Were there any 76 vettes that had the Astro Ventialtion glass but no rear deck vents? That would let me know if the windows glass was added or is original.

Someone will know the correct answer, but I'm pretty sure that '72 was the last year for the "Astro Ventilation" etched into the glass.

My 76 glass says "Astro Ventilation" and I too do not have rear deck vents.I know my glass is original. Vette's birthday is 12/3/75. I recently looked at a 73 and it had asto vent stamped on the windows. Anyone with a 76, chime in and tell us what you have.

Thats what I have been wanting to hear. My 76 had a birthday of January 16th so it is an early one as well and has the etched Astro Ventilation but no rear vents. So maybe mine is original.

Marty, our early 76's could be unique. There was a post a few months ago regarding 76's birthdays. There are quite a few of us here. Maybe start a new post asking which 76 owners have astro ventilation stamped on their glass and who doesn't. This would be very interesting to find out. Gary

Thought so.

Pure speculaton on my part, but I would say the subcontractor who assembled the doors used existing stocks of Astro Vent door glasses until they ran out. At least we know they were continuing to install them in December and January.

You could also check the date code.
There is a 2-letter date code on all original LOF glass.
Month:
Jan = N
Feb = X
Mar = L
Apr = G
May = J
Jun = I
Jul = U
Aug = T
Sep = A
Oct = Y
Nov = C
Dec = V

Glass Production year (not model year of vette):
1967 = Z
1968 = X
1969 = V
1970 = T
1971 = N
1972 = Y
1973 = U
1974 = L
1975 = I
1976 = C
1977 = G
1978 = J
1979 = A
1980 = Z
1981 = X
1982 = V

NHvette,

You beat me. I was going to mention the same. If the glass is original to the car, it will have the LOF dated glass.

LOF = Libby Owens Ford, the original glass manufacturer's name.

According to Vette Vues Fact Book 1973-1977 Stingray by M.F. Dobbins, the Astro Ventilation was used on the 1968-1975 Vettes.

Since my glass says I have astro ventilation but I really don't have it, what is it anyway? Is it a way of cooling the engine and or interior?

On cars without a/c it was a flow through ventilation system. Air comes in the front floor vents and exits through the rear air ducts.

Default Justing checking

I took a look at my windows and read this.
Bottom side of drivers side window glass is says Astro Ventilation
Bottom of passenger side window just above door handle
PPG
Solex
Herculite
Solid Tempered
Safety Float
AS2M27.8 2686
DOT 18
I know this is original glass. Could this mean LOF glass on drivers side and what was produced in 76 on passemger side? Just curious if anyone can tell what this means since it doesn't follow date code and production year as NH vette suggests. thanks GG
