I would Like to take a minuet and pick the brains of all knowing CF. I was driving home yesterday in my 73 C-3 and the brakes were working just fine. I'm half way home and I go to stop and my brake pedal goes almost to the floor.
My question is do you guys think its the master brake cylinder? I already inspected the system for leaks.I checked the vacuum system for the power assist and everything is fine, so my thinking is its the master brake cylinder.
this happened to me a few years ago in my 81
i was in traffic, stop and go... and lost my pedal
it turned out to be the old fluid gathered some moisture and the water boiled off with all the stop and go
i decided to change the whole system and now i change fluid every two years
My advice would be to check all four calipers. They can leak without necessarily wetting a wheel or a caliper half. No sense replacing the master cylinder only to have a leaking caliper.
LOL, sounds like what happen to me. Pin fell out of the brake pedal, Zero Brakes and an intersection coming at me way faster than I was happy about. I got it to do a hard left and clipped a palm tree, rebuild startes this weekend
Well I replaced the MC and I'm just waiting for a buddy to come over and help me bleed the system, Id ask my wife but I really don't trust her to pump and hold the brakes
