Well, we took the 80 to it's second show since we've had it and placed second in the 68 and up vette class. Not that impressive since there were only three vette's there...a red (nice car) 1998 and a 1979 one-owner car with 7,000 miles which won....and should have won.
We had a great time with the car, and, honestly, I didn't know there were even going to be trophys given out. Just wanted to have fun and ended up doing just that.

So, that makes one cruise and two car shows so far since we bought the car. AND I've never passed a vette owner who didn't wave...C-3, C-4, C-5, and C-6 owners so far. Makes you feel good to see the wave come your way...and return it.

this is exactly why trophys dont impress me anymore.
unless you know the circumstances they are pretty much
worthless.
we have a show here in hamilton at a car dealer and they
hand out some really big trophys for 1 2 and 3rd place
on too many occasions i have seen one car in certain classes
and of course that guy gets the 3 1/2 foot trophy.

as an example: i seen a guy win 1st place for a 70 charger,
car was a 50 footer at best. crappy paint, wavy body work.
the following week i seen him at the mopar atlantic show in
englishtown and over heard him bragging with the trophy in
front of the car.
of course he didnt say he was the only car in the class
and nice guy that i am i didnt burst his bubble

I agree that the mingling and seeing nice cars is the enjoyable part for me by far. I'm guessing the handing out of trophys is a way to bring in people who would otherwise maybe not attend. Either way, it's a good time. It does inflate the ego a bit to get a trophy over another car, but the real enjoyment is talking to the owners and finding out what the car was like before. The guy next to me was really young and had an 87 camaro Z-28 he fixed up after he got it from the junkyard. Nice guy and nice looking car...I think he put in WAY too much money, though. Could have bought two of my cars for what he had into it.
