Radar Detector: LASER! under moderate acceleration
Have any of you guys heard of this before? I don't drive the C3 often, and I have had the radar detector (Escort 8500) in it before, but today was the first time it did this. I had just got on the highway and I punched it when the laser alarm went off. I was waiting for the trooper to pull up behind me and no trooper, of course, showed up. It did this to me during my two hour drive, again, anytime under moderate acceleration. At speeds above 70 it stops. Any ideas? What's my vette trying to tell me?
Are your volts fluctuating under the sudden accel? My detector will show laser if it gets a sudden spike, usually when the car is off and the volts drop with a door opening or etc. Actually my radar detector was my first warning that my alt was going out in my Cutlass, it started beeping and I saw I only had 12V.
I didn't notice any jumps. I had been worried that the battery was getting low so that is why I took it for a ride. It started right up. I hope it is not the alt. I just replaced it two years ago. Thanks for the thoughts on this. I will check into the alt. If anyone else has seen this laser issue, please chime in.
i have a valentine in my DD and the laser warning will go off with power drops. happens sometimes when I have the radio up way too loud, but it also happened when my alternator died last year.
I tried it in the vette for the trip to bloomington this year and it wouldn't go more than 5 minutes without a laser alarm, so I'm sure there are some electrical problems in there just waiting to pop up.
I've got one of those GTech meters that I've used for autocross/drag racing (it's fairly accurate), and I've had something of the same problem with the cigarette lighter in our Vette.
The G-Tech meter reads RPMs on a fluctuation through the electrical output on the cigarette lighter. When I connected it up to the Vette, I got quite a few spikes when revving the engine. It was all over the place...and then just stopped working.
Turns out that I'd had some bad wiring, and it shorted out on the ashtray.
You might want to check your wiring for your cigarette lighter...
