First time poster here.. Just got my rebuilt small block back from the shop along with the rebuilt automatic transmission. Can't find any threads suggesting the best method for re-installation. I pulled the engine and tranny seperately (from the side cause the nose of my 71 got in the way of the hoist !) and wondering if anyone has put the engine and tranny in together... successfully. I've had suggestions about removing or tilting the radiator support (radiator is out) to get more wiggle room. Also had a suggestion to remove the tranny crossmember and then replace once everything is installed. I'd appreciate some suggestions !
Never done it in a vette....with my Chevelles I always put them in as one unit...usually with a few friends to push the car forward as the unit went...try using some spring compressors to lower the front end until the motor weight is back in...you definitely will need to remove the trans crossmember...
I just did an engine swap in my '80, but I left the tranny in since it's a 4 speed. I took the radiator and support out to paint and detail and it allowed PLENTY of room to remove and install tranny and engine. There's a lot of room with the radiator and support removed.
