install a foam collar between the transmission and the fiberglass body tunnel. then put some type of install on the underside of the tunnel. Both of these items were factory items. Also there was no heater cut off valve so hot water will always be flowing thru the heater coil and heat up the interior. I put a valve in the supply line. The last item I have done is to replace the weatherstripping between the hood and the top edge of the firewall. A poor seal will allow the hot engine compartment air to enter the HVAC plenum and come out the aie registers.

Yes I think the original insulation has failed, usually it failed the day the car was built. Another thing to check - is your heater core dumping heat into the passenger compartment? You might check that your hot water valve is closed, it may be stuck open. Lots of people put a manual valve in, you'll need one for each of the hoses, but the vacuum valves are available if you need original.

You have a couple of rubber grommets that plugs holes in your firewall. Wires and vacuum lines run through them. Mine were popped out and it was cooking my feet. Larry
