I know the weight of an engine on a C3 rests on the frame but is the engine weight on a C4 part of the uni-body ? would this give a great advantage over the C3 ? in handling ? I have never driven a C4 but they look like they have many advantages and the prices are reasonable.
The engine is always sprung, the only unsprung parts are the wheels, rotors, calipers, uprights and balljoints. The arms are partially unsprung as is the shock/spring. With the C4 having forged steel uprights and aluminium calipers, lighter rotors and forged aluminium control arms it does have a better unsprung weight.

A C-4 will completely outhandle a C-3 - not just because of unsprung weight - it's a newer better handling package. You can spend lots of money trying to upgrade the C-3 Handling - but the C-4 will still beat it like a red headed step child in the handling department.
My brother has an 82 with the complete VBP setup underneath - front and back - we put in R&P steering, bigger brakes - all sorts of stuff - aproaching 10 K worth of stuff. My stock 86 still kills him in the corners -
that being said - a C-4 - come on, the body style is a glorified firebird for Gods Sake! (this from a guy who loves his C-4)
