I have a senior in college (out of state) but still have 1 at home that plays hockey all over the country and I need something with a trunk big enough for a hockey bag and a couple of small suitcases
Although we have been long time RV campers, we just didn't need the Travel Trailer anymore and sold it to a retired couple from San Diego today. Now I don't need the '04 F250 Powerstroke Diesel Crew Cab truck either, so I plan to advertise that this week.
Time to downsize!!! I opted for a smaller VW sedan (even though I'm a big guy). I went and drove the new '06 VW TDI (Turbo Direct Injected) Diesel and will pick up a new Platinum Gray/trim pkg 1 car tomorrow. They even have a TDI website, but it's nothing like CF. I'm amazed how comfortable they are inside and the milage will save me lots of $$ for more Covette parts for my '69
Any CF members have a TDI? I'd be interested to hear how well you like them.
It's a 1.9L, 100HP But it has torque!!! Nothing wrong w/ 42MPG either
The 6 spd "DSG" (Direct Shift Gearbox) is awesome
I remember in the mid 90's when a German car magazine "tested" if and how good (and for how long) a VW diesel would run on vegetable oil. That was a very interessting 10000KM test - the engine ran fine, a little low on performance and it smelled a bit like french fries..... but vegetable oil was only 30 cents/liter (1.20 USD) at the time, compred to roughly 80 cents/liter diesel (3.20 USD)
I just drove a VW 'golf' 1.6 liter, rated @100HP, 5 speed manual during my vacation. They're great cars
I've heard stories of hit-or-miss quality with current VWs. However, my wifes niece has a TDI and she's had very good luck with it. She has about a 100 mile/day commute as a teacher, so the good mileage is a requirement. She's a farmer's daughter, so diesel is in her veins.
It is a newly designed six speed "semi automatic" that utilizes a dual clutch secenario on odd and even gears. It shifts faster and you hardly notice when it shifts. It also gets better MPG than the stick.
