Just posted this on the CFI board but thought I'd get some advice from over here as well.

Quick background. Low mileage (<28K) 82 bone stock Corvette. Has shown signs of rough idle lately.

Recently did a tune-up (plugs, fuel filter, O2 sensor, air filter, new gaskets at TBI and air cleaner cover). Day or two after the above was complete she threw me code 45 - running rich.

I've checked tightened every bolt on the intake and TBI assemblies and looked for vacuum leaks - none to be found.

Tonight I notice how dark the base gasket is on the rear TBI. I've ordered a rebuild kit. Think this will solve my problem?

Here is a photo showing the view of the close-ups below.

The bad TBI..me thinks...

The good TBI but I'll rebuild both

Two more things to check. Make sure the plug wires are good (less than 10 years old). Second, look for a vacuum leak at the base-plate to intake manifold junction just adjacent to the EGR valve. The EGR heat will cause the gasket to fail sooner or later in this area. I assume you checked the throttle body mounting bolts for tightness. Cross-fire engines have a hard time dealing with vacuum leaks of any kind.

Thanks for the response Big G. I had not thought about the intake gasket - guess I was looking for the obvious.

It only does this at idle after warm-up...I thought that means the CTS is good to go. Also, she full on stumbles when I pull up on the EGR valve so that means that system is good to go.

The more I think about it the more I think that if that gasket is soaked in fuel then I don't have the same pressure at the nozzle when the car is idling. It may be a small leak - getting worse) so I don't notice it when the car is a speed.

Any other thoughts?

that gasket seals nothing, it's just a gasket type spacer for the injector tower to the throttle body base.

It does look wet though...

Is it possible the problem is higher up in the tower?

You should balance the TBI's when you are done rebuilding. How to link http://corvettefever.com/techarticles/4688/index.html
