Anyone use High Temp Clear Paint??
Was in Advance Auto the other night and I see Plasticote makes a high temp clear....anyone use it or try it? Does it stay clear and hold up? Turn yellow? Thinking of clear coating an aluminum intake, heads water pump etc
ALSO I see Eastwood has a high temp clear and a Crystal Clear for other parts like wheels, trim etc. Regards Mark
I use the Dupli-Color clear on parts that are painted Chevy engine orange,..looks good, extra measure of protection. I've never liked the look of spray coatings over aluminum engine parts. Chevy didn't either.
Use PPG, Dupont or House of Kolor automotive clear. House of color is better but neither will yellow.
The junk you buy in the can is cheap cheap cheap. The automotive stuff is catalyzed and impervious to gas oil and even brake fluid. I paint my Master clyinder years ago and it looks like new...

The professional paints are also very expensive. This might be the deal breaker.
Anyhow... did you try those catalyzed paints on an intake?
Did they yellow or burn off at the crossover passage?
So.... your heat riser/crossover passage is functional (not blocked off or disconnected, hot exhaust gas passing through it) and the paint did not burn off?

I blasted my aluminum intake and sprayed it with clear... I reblasted it, as I did not like the somewhat fake'ie plastic shinny look of it. Just my O2 cents... To clean it, use a rag over finger dipped in lacquer thinner...works very good
I sand blasted aluminum parts and used 2 coats of clear. No paint. Looked good. After a year they started rusting . So I blasted again, then painted with aluminum paint, then cleared. Still looks great 2 years later, but I would have rather had it with no paint and just clear...
427V8 who sells this type of paint? and is is in a rattle can or bulk?
thanks
These products are sold by "Professional Bodyshop Supply" stores. Lobbyists are currently trying to get laws passed so that only "professionals" can buy these supplies. Unless "we" lobby against them, we will lose the right/ability to purchase & use these products.
The paints are "catalyzed"... meaning, you must add the catalyst as a separate item to spray them. You need proper equipment, including the correct OSHA approved respirator to apply these paints... they can kill you... they are dangerous.
They do not come in a spray bomb, as they are "true" catalyzed paints.
The manufacturers used to provide an abundance of information so that anyone could purchase & use these materials. Now, if you want information, you have to go through one of their suppliers or a bodyshop. They're making it pretty tough for the DIY folks.
