I have just accquired a 76 and the horn is not workng. We have tested the wires and get no action at all. I'm guessing that the relay is bad. The trouble is that I can't find it. In the manual I have the fuses are not the same as on the actual car. Of course everyone you talk to knows exactly where to find it...not so much.
Can anyone help me here? It could also be the switch but the relay should be an easier place to start.
A lot of problems with Corvette electrical can be traced to grounds (fiberglass bodies). It's not like you can ground to a fender like other cars. Make sure everything is grounded as well.
I have wired the horns direct and they work off the battery. The contacts seem to be OK however I have two exploded views of the horn button assembly and neither is very good. There is nothing near my fuse panel that resembles the relay in the picture...perhaps the relay is missing? That would explain a few things.
Thanks to everyone for your help!
When I got my car about three years ago it had new horns that
had been installed by the previous owner. After a month or so
one horn quit working, I could tell only half the sound. He had
installed one horn facing upwards and when I washed the car
it filled up with water! Daa........
