Default PS Control Valve rebuild problems

I rebuilt my control valve with a kit from Paragon. It was difficult to get back together because you have to fight the spring to get the lock nut on the end. I don't think my seals are right becasue after getting it back together and filling the system with PS fluid, it started running out of both ends...

Are there any tricks to putting this thing back together making sure that the seals are how they are supposed to be?

Sounds like you may have the seals in backward. The lips of the seal should face toward the pressure side. Someone might have a picture they can add.

I had the same problems, tried switching the seals around, tried all sorts of things...I finally just broke down and bought a rebuilt one from VB&P. Less headache for me, as far as I was concerned...

I'm pretty sure I got the seals on right but I'm wondering if the lip on the outside one folded over. Also, the inside one didn't look like it fit real good. I may try the old one in there.

got mine laying in pieces on the bench, next day or two will try to get it together. The rebuild kit came with instructions, but they are poor quality so I was going to do a paper on the rebuild, them I saw Jims. I may do it anyway with some color pics, anyone think that will help or should I bother?

Here are the two papers with tips on rebuilding the control valve.

http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/wp-co...Tips27JN05.doc

http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/wp-co...sRev03MR06.doc

I would be interested in any comments that you might have concerning these two papers that might make them better, easier to understand, etc.

Jim -- thanks a bunch. I have read most of your articles regarding this on corvettefaq and even used the directions you have posted there for the rebuild but I seemed to have missed those 2. I am going to try removing the valve housing and use vasoline on the seals when I put it back together to see if I can get them in there right.

Two things that concern me about the kit that I have -- the first is that the annulus seal seems a little too small and does not fit well over the spring retainer (items #13 and #14 in the first article). The second concern is that the diameter of the o-ring between the valve housing and the annulus spacer seems too small and I don't think I'm getting a good seal there. Is there anything special about that o-ring? I might see if I can find another one with a larger diameter.

When putting the hole thing back together, I was a little surprised at how difficult is was to get the springs compressed enough to get the nut on the end. Do you have any tips for that. Also, I'll check when I get it apart again but I'm not sure I got the valve shaft washer on the correct side of the annulus spacer.
