I recently bought a 73 that needs some work. I was looking at the interior and the seats and carpet are shot, but the panels are fine. I am afraid if i try to get red ( the interior is red) carpet and seat covers the old faded red won't match the new red. I was considering black carpet and seats with black accents on the panels. Or possibly cover all the panels with a fabric (then color doesn't matter as much). What do you think, and any ideas?
My son and I are working on a 73 also. The whole interior was completely shot. Everything was broke and I mean everything. We tore the whole inside out even the dash so the only thing remaining was the stearing wheel.
He fabricated a new custom dash and center console out of fiberglass and he is planning on re-covering the doors and dash in a two tone theme.
It really is up to you and what you would like to do with you're car. Some people are into originality but for our car since it we saved it from the grave yard and everything was broke, it would have cost an arm and a leg to restore it to original.

I like the idea of two tone interiors. Look at ecklers & mid-america they sell two-tone interior parts. black goes w/everything so b/red will look great. I don't like the fabric on the door panels just cleanup the one you have & later replace them. Both of the vendors above sell interior paint and I used the black. if you prep the door panels well the paint looks good. I would try that vs fabric. .02
How much do you want to spend? Just bought an entire, and I do mean complete interior from carpet to visors for my 71 and it was about $2700. I got a show discount, but even without a discount the price was cheaper than the others out there. Not sure if they are a sponsor so PM me and I will give you the company name, if you want to do that way. And they do restore to wild, so can set you up with what you need. The door panels they sent me are outstanding, as is everything else. Almost makes me want to forgo the frame off and just rip out the old and install the new.
If your seats are vinyl and you want to keep it red (but have it match), just buy a good quality vinyl dye and re-color whatever pieces need it. You can even re-do the door panels, if you remove them and the hardware. Even if you don't have spray equipment, you can buy individual bottle sprayers at a good car paint supply store. Just put the dye in a bottle, screw the bottle on to a spray head and shoot. Goes on easy and look like new when it dries. AND....all of your interior pieces match!
