Body off is a pretty serious undertaking. What do you call light? What I call light can be taken off with a brushwheel. Then some por15 or rust bullet.

Take it to someone who has steamcleaning equipment and/or a powerwasher. This should be someone who knows what they are doing...not any ol' Bubba who just has the equipment. You can do some damage, if you don't know what to avoid.

Anyway, get that done to the underside (and to some of the engine bay/chassis if it needs it). That will clean it well enough to put some rust stabilizer on needed areas and then paint it. If you just want it to look nice, you can use a brush to put Rustoleum semi-gloss black on the frame metal. If you want to do it right, buy the POR15 products (web purchase is easiest). Both are pretty easy to use, but you need a location where you can keep fresh air circulating....and a lift would really be nice!

thanks for the info. Just checked out the POR-15 website and it looks like a good product. It says you can put the POR-15 "directly on rusted or seasoned metal surfaces". So i can give it a good cleaning with a power washer and then use the POR-15 as suggested ... but has anyone ever tried Metal Ready which is another product on their site? I'm wondering if i should try applying this first to remove as much of the rust as possible before applying the POR-15

Regardless of what type of coating or metal prep you use, wear good eye protection. A droplet of Por-15 in your eye would be awful.
