The suggestion of continuing the color onto the rear of the roof, including the sail panels sounds the best, covering it in vinyl sounds even better,(photoshop it and post it here) but there aint nothing like a white vette so I'd just get the side exhaust and enjoy the hell outta it,,,Peace,,,Moosie

I think it was Overhaul'in or one of those shows that they put a really cool chrome looking paint job on the roof of one of their projects. I think that would look good.

I cant bear to even think about painting the sails as I just had the car painted but heres a rough photoshop take......gives it a rag top (with the hard top on) kinda look though...

The chrome thing would be wild.....diddnt think of that.
Ill have to see what paint is avail for something that really has a chrome look
I only paid $50 for the tops so I dont have much to lose.

I like two tone interiors and two tone engines but your car w/the red tops looks like you stole them. sorry I would just have them painted white to match the body.

No no no Jim
I still have the original white tops
I just stuck the red ones on to see how they fit.

I would never drive it like that

IMO the black tops look OK with the 78+ Vettes cos the back window balances them - the only colour is the hoop behind the tops and that looks OK on its own.

I agree that painting the tops alone would look weird, but for several years I had red vinyl stripes on my white '76 that looked like painted ones. You could experiment with vinyl easily on the hoop behind your red tops:

Beauty of this is that you just peel it off if you don't like it, or if you get bored.

I must admit, I got really bored of my car being plain white.

I like the all white....but since they are spares...why not paint them white with a US flag motiff on them. That might look cool at a rally or show. Tak'em off and set them in the front of the car and sit back and watch the oohs and aahs.

Bring it home, put the white ones back on and your back to your old self.

Heres what I was thinking
Have the spares painted the same color as the originals(I still have some paint left over)
So I can keep a set in the bags in the rear of the car and leave the other set at home.
We alll know what a drag it is to take the tops off, put them in the bags ect:

So... now if Its a nice day and I leave a set at home and it turns cold (or rains ) I will still have a set with me. I would kep the set with no interior in the bags as they would only be used once in a while...I could also try and find a used set of interior panels........any color would do as I could paint them.
Wadda ya think?
Thanks!

Great idea!

Picture this...it starts raining/lightnig/thunder! You pull over to the side of the road, pull out the tops and put them on...they are a beautifull white with some really nasty looking lightening bolts streaking accross them!

As long as you are going to do it, why not go with your original thoughts and make it different. Do it up tough and make them worthy of sittin on top of your head!
