Default corvette interior?

hey, i am from Australia, i have loved corvettes ever since i saw one from a very little age. we have an American shop over here that sells American cars, anyway i sat in a 80 vette and didn't really fit.

it was tight but with the targa roof of it was ok, but my legs were against the steering wheel and touching the doors. this car was converted to right hand drive, but being American i thought it would be made for big guys? obviously not, i am hoping that left hand drive cars might have a bit more room, having the tranny(transmission) tunnel taking up less room on the drivers side.

i really want a 80 - 82 vette they are the best!

just curious as to what height you guys/gals are that drive your vettes.
i am 6 foot 6 inches around 198cm

atm i have a holden vl calais turbo(as in the pic in my avatar), it is a 3L 6 cylinder turbo.
clears the quarter in 15 secs on standard 6psi, but wind this up to 12psi and is capable of covering the quarter in high 11 low 12secs!, not bad hey?

anyway hope to hear from you guys/gals
thanks

I think you will find the Vette cramped for your height no matter if you are sitting in the driver or passenger seat. I am about 5' 10" and I drive with the seat as far back as it will go and it is comfortable for me.

RH drive; LH drive; it won't make much difference. T/T was standard on the 80-82 models and that will allow a little bit of adjustment, but the seats will travel rearward only a fixed distance.

hi thanks for the reply, maybe i would be able to have the seat lowered some how and moved back. maybe a bit of engineering to be done:-)
an auto would be better, less room needed

Default Headroom

I am 6'2" and fit into my '79 Coupe which is RH drive. The '72 LH drive BB Vert I also have has more headroom and not because it's a vert, the seat seems to be lower. It is little cramped in the Coupe, hell try sitting in an MG.

Regards,
Chris from Tassie

I have an '80 and am 6'3", 270, and yes it is tight. The seat is all the way back and my left shoulder is pushing against the door panel. But its a Vette and I will enjoy it.
Glass tops give more headroom than the fiberglass with headliner panels, too.

6'2" 220 lbs and I'm tight also in my 79, the glass tops made a huge difference, especially after I re-did the seats with new foam.

I think the seats in the 78-82 years make you sit a little higher. I had a 76 and set lower in it. My 82 has the seat allllllllllllllll the way back and seem to sit higher in it. I am 6'1" and 240.

I'm 6'2" and around 250, I fit just fine in my 77. I'm installing a set of old Eagle Talon sport seats, I had to chop about 1" out of the bottom of them to get the height comfortable for me.

Hey, 6' 4" 275/280 lbs. headroom enough with the glass roofs on it but not nearly enough or comfortable with the solid roofs on it . The earlier seats,,,pre '79 are thinner in the cushion. Peace,,,Moosie

You can find after market seats that are thinner and will put your butt further back. As for head room... get a haircut.

My uncle is 6" 4'+ probably 250lbs. He won't fit in my 81, but he fit fine in a 96 vert. Later vettes are definitely wider and roomier. As far as dropping the seat lower in a C3, they're already setting pretty much on the floor. Short of cutting the floor pan and lowering it, I'm not sure there's much to work with. Lowering the pan isn't going to do the already limited ground clearance a lot of good, and it's not going to help with the leg room any. Like others have said, that seat is all the way against the wall. There's no moving it any farther back.

With my 1980, my driver seat is and has always been all the way back. Im 6'0 my wife is 5'6 and all 4 sons are 6'2-6'4. No one has ever mentioned being cramped in the driver seat. It isn't like the days of my Triumph TR6 with my knees in my chin.

Hope this may help. Good luck

I am 6'2 220 with a 77 vette... no problems for me.

However if I had a stick (4 speed manual) it may be tricky with my big feet (size 12)

I always ride with the tops out of the car. unless it rains...

but hell, I still don't have my hood installed yet

LOL
