I don't have any personal problems with them, but when I got my free video from Back Yard Buddy, they had some good reasons to beware when buying a cheaper lift.
There were some threads a few years ago about someone who's car fell off of a Perfect Park 6000 or something. The lift did fail and dropped his '69 vert onto his C4, I think. Do a search in the archives.
I Have a 4 post made by Superior (I think their out of Kansas) Cost $3000 delivered, but its a good quality. I was told to stay away from the cheaper ones. Once you have one you won't know how you did without.
Since we are fairly close to each other, your welcome to come take a look at it if you like.
I bought mine back in 2000 from a company called lifts.com and they also distribute Gemini. No problems here. Like any piece of equipment lifts need to be periodicaly maintained checking for anything that may be wearing....etc.

I agree. I have a Backyard Buddy. The ad in Corvette Fever is of my two Vettes. When you buy a lift the first thing to look for is Safety. The locking mechanism is most important. Is it positive locking? The posts are next. Are they full posts or do they have a cutout to travel inside? Full posts are the strongest. Other items to consider are the cable strengths, tread thickness, size of hydraulic cylinder ram, 120volt, is a jacking trolley available to do service on the car, I am very satisfied with my lift.
Hope this helps
Steve
While thats a scary picture I notice it was in 2002.I would think in 4 years that improvements have been made.Just turning 50 I'm getting to old to work on my back.
I have a two and four post. Honestly, unless you're parking a car under the lift I see no reason to choose a four post over a two post. So much easier to work without the ramps in the way, and with the offset one (like mine) you can open the door without hitting to column.
I just read most of what 69L71 went thru with lifts unlimited. That was unbelievable to say the least. As a new corvette owner, (the car arrived today) I have been looking at lifts since I have a large outbuilding that I can put one in. This is now my second muscle car that I own and want something decent.
If 69L71 is still around, I just want to personally thank him for everthing he did to help us all make a decision on who NOT to deal with. Here is is over 4 years after his ordeal and the info is still here for us all.
69L71...I just have one question after reading most of what happened. Was Lifts Unlimited (Mitch) the one who actually FINALLY coughed up your 3300 bucks? You never really clarified. If so...after all that stonewalling and he still ended up shelling out the cash. Do you have any idea how much money that company lost due to them doing what they did to you? I'm sure you do. And like I said...here it is 4 years later and guess who I WILL NOT be buying a lift from. Might be a decent product, but I will NOT do business with total idiots.
besides...I think I like the idea of a 2 post anyhow...I have the space and I think you can do so much more with them.
Miker how old is your lift? after reading about your ordeal, I checked my superior lift and the pully bolts are welded so they don't back out. Was this a fix to solve the problem you had?
My neighbor bought a four post from Eagle Equip out of the Hemmings mag. same problem......bolts ripped out of the pully(sp). It was the first time I'd asked to put my vette on it, we raised the car about 12" then bam it dropped to the floor.Luckly no damage. I'll never put my car on the POS again! Remember you get what you pay for. My .02 WB
It was not my lift that failed. The failed lift belonged to forum member 69L71.
I have a 4-post lift from Autolifters. I'm very satisfied with it.

I like one contributors suggestion about a two post lift. But does anyone have experience using it over the long haul for parking? Specifically on C-4s on which the jacking points are fiberglass ridges. Thanks.
Ordered my 4 post lift from America's Pride today.9000 lb.capacity.Scratch and dent special.I believe its american made.It sounds more heavy duty than the 7000 lb one and has a 220 volt motor. The next fun is getting it unloaded and putting it together. Thanks to all who wrote.Dino

I don't think 2 posts are a very good idea for long term parking for the reason that your suspension will remain under full droop for long periods of time, which can't do many of your bushings and suspension components a whole lot of good, especially shocks and swaybar bushings.
