Ok..brief run down... My unlce left me his 69 BB 427 which has been in storage for the past four years never started never moved etc. I have had the car since July and have not had any time to realy get into it. Now the wedding is outta the way the "progress" on the car is in full swing. So today was the day that i wanted to try to start it for the first time. I cranked it over with out the 12 volt line hooked to the distributor just to get everything lubed up etc...Hooked the 12 volt line back to the distributor and with one turn of the key it fired up like it has never sat!! It ran smooth and sounded like the bad *** that it is! Needless to say im more that estatic. Bad news is the carb is leaking from seals from sitting for so long..heres my question should i have it rebuilt or (dont shoot me for this) replace it with somthing cheap like a rochester untill i decide want I want??
Congrats
Since you mentioned switching to a Rochester, I'll assume you have a Holley. For about 20 bucks you should be able to buy a rebuild kit that will have all the seals you need
Replacing the gaskets on a holley is really easy and would be a great beginner project. Gasket kits are available for little money. Just make sure you use the right gasket as the kit will contain gaskets for different carbs. Just compare the old one to the new ones to figure out what you need.
They are a great resource - you can rebuild it yourself easily.
I had mine restored - much more extensive than a rebuild - it was leaking gas through the linkage - restore costs $400+ depending on condition. I used Chicago Corvette.
And yes its a Holly 750 DP, do you have a site that you recomend that i can get one? All the help is needed
Most chain parts stores(around here anyway) have a performance section, with the rebuild kits hanging on the pegboard where the carbs/intakes are located. Take the list#(stamped on the air horn, or take the whole carb since you have to remove it anyway) in case you're not sure which kit to get. The DP kits are readily identifiable by the two accelerator pump diaphrams visible through the plastic, but double-check to make sure
