The pic below is correct 72 base 350 except for valve covers. And yes the alarm is on the rear. The round key should activate...alarms with doors or hood opened. The alarm horn is mounted behind the drivers side wheel wheel.

The 72 cars came with a factory alarm and the keyhole was in the back.
The tach is most likely the cross shaft in the dist. The gears tend to strip out and not make it work. Disconnect it from the dist and turn with your fingers. Have someone in the car see if it moves. If it does your dist gears are shot. It is fixable though.
Are you just replacing the pads or the brake calipers also. If it is just the pads looks for leaks or dampness around the boots of the pistons. If they have never been SS sleeved they are probably leaking.

You need to remove the dist and pull out the tach drive part of the dist. If the gears are shot you have to replace the shaft and the gears. Disassemble the dist and repair. Not a big deal at all. The parts are about 75 to 100 if I remember correctly.

You can take one of your calipers apart to see if it has a stainless sleeve. If the sleeve is stainless it would be worth the effort to take the others apart and check. If the bores are pitted or rusty you can get stainless sleeved calipers from Autozone for ~$70.00 each. Rebuild kits from AutoZone are ~$13.00 each if you have stainless sleeves. There have been several recent threads on caliper rebuilding so I won't go into the details yet again.

The exhaust on the base engine cars is only 2" I believe so you can put on a 2.5" system for a big-block 72 and get a few more HP. MidAmerica has a 2.5" Magnaflow system for the 72 that looks interesting.

You can easily get the 2.5" exhaust system for your base car. The LT-1 will bolt right up (it narrows to 2" so it can bolt to the exhaust manifold). However, you will have to swap out the piece that is by the cross member as it is probably only for 2" and you need the 2.5" piece.

Have fun.

Not quite true on the pic. The chrome air cleaner cover is aftermarket. The factory stock one was black. Also the washer fluid reseivior is a bag type on my stock 350. This one appears to be a plastic jug, I suspect installed some time later for better capacity. Great looking engine compartment though.

If you were ever considering side pipes maybe now is the time to do it.
