Default 1976 Engine Block ID

Hey all, I am reletivly new to the car fixing world. I need to know if there are any sites that have a database for engine block ID's or if any of you know what the block ID number for a '76 is.

Thanks.

Check the numbers on the pad on the block at the front of the right head. You may need a flashlight to see and can expect to have to scrub off some road gunk. The pad is stamped with the engine identificaiton code and a VIN derivative of the vehicle the engine was originally installed in. The ID stamp will give you more specific information than the block casting number.

No, the block "casting" number on all 76 Vettes is 3970010, the Serial/identification number is what you are describing with the VIN etc. on the stamp pad. The casting number is on drivers side rear flange where the tranny mounts.

I understand that. I'm betting he wants more specific information than just a block casting number.
