My buddy ran a high output 350 in a puller and after 3 seasons they pulled it apart to make sure everything was okay and the crank was cracked in 3 different places. A little more time and she would have come apart completely.
At these pulling events it was all that uncommon to see a motor go to pieces. A 289 gave up the ghost when the piston popped through the side of the block. I'll ask my buddy if he has any pics of that one. They all laughed at the guy because he knew the engine was running bad and ran it anyways.
Looks like a 2 bolt main, I'm sure that contributed to the crank failure.
Except for the 427 and some very late 406s, all FEs (including the 428 Super Cobrajet) are two-bolt mains. With proper prep, two-bolt FE blocks are good for around 600 hp since they are skirted. Read the whole post.
I post on that forum as I have an old Fairlane with an FE.
That word (hydrazine) brings back memories,,,,,,,,,,but I dont know why, Peace,,,Moosie
Here is the article that explains it, the Golden Greek use to mix Hydrazine, nitromethene and methenol for dragster fuel what the pioneers of racing wouldn't try!!, sometimes with expensive results.

Don't Laugh!
Guys, I can't believe you all are laughing and joking about this poor guys misfortune. I share the Ford Chevy thing too (as one of my closest frineds from school, still, is a dye hard Ford guy), but man, that has to hurt the pocket book. My heart goes out to him, even if he is a Ford guy. I HOPE you're just making light of a very bad situation! Maybe I'm just sensitive to it because of all my motor problems. You think, Moosie?!!??

I made hydrazine in the chemistry lab once. It and the glassware disappeared quite quickly. Luckily, I escaped unscathed. I decided it was safer to explore radioactivity than rocket fuel. It's probably best that I got out of laboratory science.

I worked in an inorganic lab in university where I got to work with a hydrazine set up. One of the techs messed up the lubricant on one of the glass joints and blew up the fume hood. Not a great material to play with.
