Default Hooker sidepipe covers/insulators available?

Hi all,

Considering switching to hooker sidepipes, just wondering what covers/insulators are available for them. Remember seeing a few different ones over the years.

I found two kinds, just wondering what other options are out there (the first one seems a little pricey!):

http://www.koolmat.com/side-exhaust.shtml
http://www.cobrastuff.com/

I currently have '69 factory sidepipe covers, and allens reproductions of the factory pipes (no I won't be selling them). I love side-exhaust and would never go back to rear exit but the loss in performance from the factory style sidepipes has really been bugging me of late (I really noticed a drop in performance even though I only switched from a crappy twin 2" system and crappy old mufflers).......

You don't need all that fancy matting in the first one. I have a set of ceramic coated Cobrastuff covers. They will get a little warm to the touch after a hard drive but not enough to cause any kind of burn.

Also, I believe BangkokDean was working on some custom sidepipe covers, trying to get GM's permission to do the Corvette name.

Also, if you want performance, stay away from the Hooker mufflers and go with the Spiral Turbo baffles. (I don't know anything abou the Hokker Max Flows. They weren't available two years ago and I got the baffles.)

After you burn yourself once, do that many people continue to do it where a shield is necessary? I always wondered. And yes, I do have sidepipes so I am qualified to comment. Just curious.

Jughead: Hi! Are you thinking of going to hookers? Those factory sidepipes must be choking that beautiful BB of yours up a bit!

MJ: What sort of covers are those you are using and what did you pay for them?

TSAGG: Generally I would want the covers for passengers as several people burnt their legs on the factory style sidepipes before I installed the factory covers, and they don't even stick out as much as the hookers. But even I occasionally forgot and burnt myself as often I did not remember when getting out as my mind can be elsewhere.

cheers

Yes, that was always part of my plan. I wanted a set of factory side exhaust w/covers and a set of "white" Hooker side mounts. That would keep me amused changing them when I feel. When I have the Hookers on, I'm going to send the originals out to get re-chromed.

I got a line on a used set of Hookers I'm going to have Jet-hot coated "White." Then I think I'll have them coat a set of the covers in white too. It'll probably take a year of more for me to come up with the cash for all that and the install.
