I think I want to get some Cragar SS for my red 77. Anyone have some pics they could share - cragar or otherwise? Also what bolt pattern do I need to look for?

Thanks!

Love the look of Cragar SS. Bought them in 75 and still keep them on.

Are all four rims the same size (15X8), or is it just the tires in the rear that are wider?

That is awesome! I love the color of your vette! How do those low profile tires handle? Do you have to recalibrate the speedometer or how does that work when you put on 17" wheels?

Can someone explain how it works when you put on 17" rims - We live in a small town and the cops are always out there looking for speeders, so if I put on 17" wheels can you recalibrate the speedometer?

what about the difference between chrome (cragar ss) and polished aluminum (American racing)? Does the polished aluminum stay looking nice?

Two ways to approach this:
1) use 17 tires that have same overall diameter (17" lower profile)

2) Replace speedo gear at tranny to compensate for a change in tire diameter.

My C5 rims with 17"/18" are essentially the same diameter as the 255/15s,
so they are good to go. They do require adapters to compensate for
backspacing. If purchasing new rims, make sure the backspacing
isn't too far. Stock wheels are 15x8 with 4" backspace.

When buying tires, the diameter is usually given.

Here's a 69 with 17" Cragers. Sorry I don't have a better picture.

Man, I am really torn, I have always liked white lettered tires with the 15" cragars, but the 17" are really sharp! This is going to be a tough decision.

Anyone have pros or cons on chrome vs polished alloy? I like American Racing Torq Thrust II also, but Cragar SS have been such a classic...

i can truly relate with you on making that decision on the chrome cragars or american racing ttll's. both are nice looking and are very similar wheels.
pros / cons...the chrome may peel and the polished aluminum may dull. if the chrome starts to peel, it will have to be rechromed.with the aluminum,
a good aluminum polish and elbow grease can restore the shine. 15's with the white letters out for the old school classic look and 17's w/black wall
low profile tires for the retro / modern look. either one...you can't lose

17 / 18 combo polished ttll's
