We have a sign hanging on the wall in the body shop;
Labor rate = $45/hour
$65/hour if you watch
$100/hour if you worked on it first....lol
Putting the interior back in is more fun for me than taking it out (more time consuming though). As long as your 'customer' will follow-through with getting what you need to put it back together (ie, felt for duct seals, insulation to put under the carpeting--that's a job in itself, glue, screws) so you can stay on the re-install job, the deal you made is OK. If you have to do all the running around to buy the 'odds & ends', its going to be a PITA. Tell him you assumed that he was the "gopher" before you start. If that doesn't work for him, forget it. [Remember, it's his car--he should have some skin in it.]
$1K is reasonable for everyone. Just make sure he gets all the parts to you when you need them. Nothing like setting aside the time to do something and finding something missing. You then have to stop orderr parts and then wait. That can be a real PITA let alone a waste of time.
I have seen it many times "all the parts are there" until you need them then "I don't know where they went, I swear they were there last time I looked" But that was 15 years ago.
Good luck. Reassembly is much better than disassembly.
