First Annual Fall Classic Extravaganza!!!

We held it a pavilion near Houston. We invited everyone pretty much word of mouth. Featured event was to get the engine started in "Casper"..the white '68. It has been named that for a long time because Patrick (Pef427) kept telling us he had a white Vette...but no one had ever seen it..hence the "ghost name". He had installed a new 598"/819HP motor with a T-56 "Tranzilla" to back it up. He trailered it to the event and we finished plug wires, installed radiator etc and got it running for the first time. You'll note Joe (Sateen DevilDog) doing a masterful job of safety wiring the radiator in place. Sounded killer with open headers!! Then he took it down the street and "exercised" the rear tires a little. Even managed to bang a 1-2 shift with his improvised 3" long bolt for a shifter handle!
Food was provided by "Chef Willie", his wife Debbie and his brother Ronnie who did a fantastic job with the fajitas.
There was a spark plug changing competition. Quite a few contestants..then the wives got involved. The idea was to shame the bashful guys into participating...but might have backfired a little. Turns out women outdid a few of the fellows and they were all scared to compete after that!
The "Chair of Shame" made another appearance. It is officially put in "Time Out" with items from all the cars and owners who didn't get their stuff together in time to attend. "Casper" earned the right to get off the chair once it moved under it's own power!!
There was a slideshow on a screen showing lots of fun from the Forum Cruise In.
Then we had "Movie Night". Featured film was "Two Lane Blacktop". Originally we figured there would a bunch of gearhead guys sitting around watching and cracking jokes about "changing the jets" (that will make sense to anyone who ever saw the movie). We ended up with 34 people in attendance at Movie Time including lots of wives. Well..turns out that "Blacktop" is a little dry for the ladies. I think it was best described as watching "Chinese water torture". But as the evening wound down, all the guys were hitting us up for a copy of the DVD!!!
Sunday we met at a local golf club for breakfast. There were folks who couldn't make it the day before as well as some of the "diehards". The whole group formed a train on the highway to drive to a little airport about 35 miles away for lunch at a 50's style diner. Tony set it all up and we had reserved parking out front.
Then we all went into town to a big ice cream place and had dessert..as well as providing a quick parade of Vette's through town to wake up all the folks out "Antiquing"!!
The drive up had a couple of fun things...first was an appearance of Captain Chaos wearing his authentic MiG Helmet in the blue convertible. Of course you would have had to have been at Bowling Green last year to appreciate this vision...but all weekend there were people asking when he would appear.
Then also might have been a couple of impromptu "acceleration contests". Just a rumor....but I heard it may have occured!!
Anyway, it was a great first run at something like this. We had lots of folks pass through during the day in other musclecars who just wanted to stop in and say Hi. We had a lot more wives and children come than we thought would make it, so that turned it from more of a "technical gearhead" party to more of a fun family day....as well as maybe a few adult beverages thrown in for fun!! We cancelled a couple of the "Tech Seminars" we had planned because everyone was just having too much fun hanging out together. We'll add them some other time.
We're already looking forward to the next time!! This was just a warm up practice party for next year's trip to the Forum Cruise In. The Texas Crowd will be there in even larger numbers next year if we keep this up!!

I would again like to say "thank you" to all that participated in the birth of my new motor. It was a lot of fun wrenching and bench racing with Cf members from around TX. I appreciate the good food and friendship and can't wait for the BG run. We gotta talk thru this rearend deal and soon. Wish I had taken pics of the 9" setups in BG KY last year!
