Speaking of the pro's making errors, I bought a 69 black vert "Hotwheel Style" car in The Corvette Museum in BG. The 69' has 68 reverse lights under the bumper. Of all places to get it wrong...

Interestingly enough, there was just another post on this forum about Eckler's qulity and since this was not a 68 part but yet their catalog states that this item fits 68-75, it proves again that Eckler's is no longer the reliable source for Corvette parts they once were. I guess some would say that the word "fits" is the disclaimer but it is misleading since at quick glance one might be led to believe that 68 hardtops had these tips.
Kurt
Most people including the guys who specialize in corvettes have no clue about 68's , They either state 1968---------1975 or they exclude 68 on everything available 69-75 Want to hear pathetic ???? i have been judged at hundreds of car shows, 90% of the judges don't know how to open the doors, it's fun to sit back in my chair & watch them blunder...........how can you be a judge in a c3 catagory & not know that ? beyond me..........Corvette world in PA is a mom & pop shop type place thta has the expertise to know whats correct for 68 & whats not...........mid america, eklers, corvette central have no clue, or they tell you that its correct with confidence, not knowing a thing, but always happy to take it back after you pay the shipping BOTH ways !!

Well its hard to fault non believers for the misidentification of the 68. My biggest beef is that the white development ZL-1 Corvette that Zora drove is commonly described and labeled in die cast form as a "69 ZL-1".

Its clear looking at its pictures during the 69 press day that the car and its L-88 racer coupe stablemate that they are both 68's. I would give a lot to know what the vin's of those GM test vehicles...Alas they are but history now....

Remember that the 69 was for many years called the better of the two due to production line proficiency and standardization. They were worth more. Today, a restored 68 has no production blemishes, is cleaner without the decorative badging and is a unique car that is far rarer. To a collector, the 68 will have a higher value when done right, because its a stunningly unique car that had a tough development. Late 68's have a lot of 69 stuff on them, even interior parts. The key to a 68 is careful documentation. A lot of strange things happened in that year.

68 rocks.

I wholeheartedly agree. I love my 68 despite what some say about this model year. I have had mine since 1972 and will never sell it.
It has none of the problems that I have read about; doesn't overheat, clock always works, vacuum system is perfect. I love this car as much today as when I bought it 34 years ago.
International Blue: If you start that data base, add me to it.
427SixPack: can I get the name and address and phone for the mom and pop dealer in PA? Thanks

KSBUNTING,

The 68 database is started and has about 350 cars logged. There is no real way to get in touch with most of the owners of the cars I have logged, unless I am given a phone number. Normally I just keep information on the specifics of the car only. I do not ever want to use it in a law enforcement way, just as a historical record. Here is how it started.

I am a P-51 nut and as airplanes are my other passion, I have a huge datafile on almost half of all mustangs made. Delivery history use and final fate. Corvettes and my 68 were always on my mind and eventually last year I started compiling a stats of every car I saw for sale or in person.

My 68 has no body assembly date stamped in the trim tag, and so working around through other cars, I felt I could locate the date. Discovering the preceding car for sale, I found it had no body date code either. Yesterday I found the owner of the car after mine on the line. NO DATE! So Anyone with an early car, especially in the 1200 range should email me! How many cars are missing an assembly date on the trim tag?

On the asides, the database has found the forward/aft mirror transition(s), the frame transition from 68 to 69 type (25500) and soon hopefully other details. If its going to be any use at all it will be to show how many of these things exist in the world today.

To this end, wrecked, burned or parts cars are very important for addition. If a 68 is being parted, email me the vin and known options and the trim codes and dates! Having an accurate record will put the 68 ahead of all of the other years eventually.

All the best.

Thanks for the info guys, and yes if on the registry I have added it to my datafile. This is for now an off internet deal. What the idea is in my mind is to have an accessible medium that I can use for 68 data. I was really impressed with Bizzocos 69 bok and felt that the 68 would be an even more interesting subject to treat in the same way. The problem with the registry is that owners put cars up that have an interest. In my case any cars on any database, for sale or seen "IN THE WILD" are entered into it. I just want masses of vin numbers to start getting some idea of what remains.

Any information on cars just pm me anytime.

What do you mean by "Need new passwords"?
Did you forget yours or did the previous owners register the cars?
